چکیده

Ethanol production has been carried out from molasses by yeast Saccharomyces cervisiae and Schizosaccharomyces pombe. The level of alcohol production from molasses by the use of both these organisms in continuous ethanol fermentation. The highest percentage of alcohol production by Saccharomyces cervisiae with specific gravity 1.032 was 7.20% whereas Schizosaccharomyces pombe showed 5.25% of alcohol production with specific gravity 1.032. Batch fermentation was conducted by these organism for the role of bio protease enzyme in ethanol production. Higher alcohol production was notiied in flask which contained enzymes with Saccharomyces cervisiae and Schizosaccharomyces pombe. It was found that Saccharomyces cervisiae with enzyme added batch fermentation showed 8% of alcohol production is higher compared with free cells as only 6% of alcohol production. Amount of total reducing sugar and fermentation efficiency of the substrate molasses were calculated and tabulated. Molasses is a complex substrate that has wide range of nutrients that are not often completely metabolized by the microbial inoculums. Analysis of COD reduction rate of Saccharomyces cervisiae used waste water was 41.50%. Analysis of COD reduction rate of Schizosaccharomyces pombe used waste water was 50.78%. From this study, we conclude that Saccharomyces cervisiae yielded better results in alcohol production compared to Schizosaccharomyces pombe.

Comparative Study on Two Commercial Strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae for Optimum Ethanol Production on Industrial Scale

Two commercial strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Saf-Instant (Baker's yeast) and Ethanol red (Mutant) were compared for ethanol production during hot summer season, using molasses diluted up to 6-7 degrees Brix containing 4%-5% sugars. The yeasts were then propagated in fermentation vessels to study the effects of yeast cell count and varying concentrations of Urea, DAP, inoculum size and La...

Investigation of yeast performances in the fermentation of beet and cane molasses to ethanol production

___________________________________________________________________________________________ Abstract In commercial ethanol production producers often use sugarcane or sugar beet molasses as raw material due to their abundance and low costs. The most employed microorganism used for fermentation is Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast due to its ability to hydrolyze sucrose from cane or beet molasses i...

Malo-ethanolic fermentation in grape must by recombinant strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Recombinant strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae with the ability to reduce wine acidity could have a significant influence on the future production of quality wines, especially in cool climate regions. L-Malic acid and L-tartaric acid contribute largely to the acid content of grapes and wine. The wine yeast S. cerevisiae is unable to effectively degrade L-malic acid, whereas the fission yeast S...

Mutational analysis of malate pathways in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

Schizosaccharomyces pombe is of interest to wine-makers because, unlike the Saccharomyces cerevisiae wine yeasts, it eciently metabolizes all levels of malic acid found in grape musts. To determine the metabolic pathway for malatemetabolism in Sch. pombe, a mutational analysis was performed using a selection system which isolated 154mutants that were unable to utilize malic acid. Themutants we...

Combined Use of S. pombe and L. thermotolerans in Winemaking. Beneficial Effects Determined Through the Study of Wines' Analytical Characteristics.

The most common way to produce red wine is through the use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains for alcoholic fermentation and lactic acid bacteria for malolactic fermentation. This traditional winemaking methodology produces microbiologically stable red wines. However, under specific conditions off-flavours can occur, wine quality can suffer and human health problems are possible, especially af...
